If there's a sudden COVID-19 outbreak in Aruba, the local medical providers won't have time to deal with foreign insurers and the many different types of policy conditions. By centralizing the insurance system, all visitors can be assisted instantly and won't have many, if any, out-of-pocket expenses. In addition, the foreign insurers don't cover quarantine costs if you test positive and tend to restrict COVID-19 coverage if and when the CDC or your country's Public Health Department issues a high (negative) travel warning. Foreign insurers also don't offer a local 24/7 COVID-19 helpline to assist and guide you in case you become infected with COVID-19 in Aruba.
The insurance can only be purchased within 72 hours before you departure date via the ED-Card form available on www.edcardaruba.aw. If you already completed the ED-Card form, you should receive an automated email within the 72-hour window asking you to click on a link that takes you back to the ED-Card form where you must answer some health related question and pay for the insurance.
You can pay for the insurance using a credit card or a debit card with the Visa or MasterCard logo on it. Residents of the Netherlands can use iDEAL to pay for the insurance.
After you've made the purchase you will see a payment made to Koral Systems under the title KORALINSURE* ARUBA-00 (Previously AW000001). The last digits indicate the transaction number.
You can buy or use your own travel- or health insurance to supplement the Aruba Visitors Insurance but it cannot replace it. Other insurances may cover you for some of the COVID-19 related expenses but few plans offer comprehensive COVID-19 coverage in Aruba that also covers isolation (quarantine for recovery) costs. In addition, many foreign insurers don’t have a local 24/7 COVID-19 helpline and a direct billing agreement with all the providers in Aruba. They also tend to restrict COVID-19 coverage if and when the CDC or your country's Public Health Department has issued a high travel warning for Aruba.
The maximum possible period of insurance allowed under this plan is 180 successive days.
If you’re already in Aruba and you have a fever, dry cough, shortness of breath or a combination of any of the known COVID-19 symptoms, please inform guest relations at your hotel so they can call the COVID-19 Call Center. If you’re not staying at a hotel, please proceed to call the COVID-19 Call Center at 280-0505. Based on your symptoms you will receive professional guidance and medical advice. Do not go to the ER or a general practitioner if you have these symptoms. Stay inside and call before you act.
Once you’ve called the helpline, the Assistance Center will notify the insurer directly to ensure that your case is handled accordingly. You may later be asked to complete a short online form to confirm your health status but you don’t have to go through the hassle of making a claim or asking for reimbursements.
The insurance can be purchased within 72 hours prior to your departure via the ED Card form at www.edcardaruba.aw. As soon as you’ve completed the ED-Card form and payment, you will instantly receive an email with your policy documents attached.
The first version of the Aruba Visitors Insurance only covers COVID-19 related expenses.
The coverage provided under this insurance starts the moment you disembark in Aruba and expires at 11:59 pm Atlantic Standard Time on the end date specified on the policy schedule or the moment you embark a plane to leave Aruba, whichever occurs first.
The insurance is covered by a syndicate of locally licensed insurers, Elvira Verzekeringen N.V., Massy United Insurance Aruba N.V., Ennia Caribe Schade (Aruba) N.V. and reinsured by A++ AM Best Rated Reinsurers.
